On Thursday 20th March, twelve Southlands students were invited to Chorley Town Hall to compete in the Chorley Council Enterprise Challenge.
The “Pastel Pastries” team consisted of Isobel Cain, Emma Ashcroft, Georgina Coulborn, Alice Hamilton, Charlotte Dixon Hall and Laura Slater. Southlands High School entered another group called “Sports for Kids” including students Isobel Terry, Emelia Carter, Charlie Price, Jak Fender, Joe Woods and Ellie Overton.
The Enterprise Challenge asked the students to create a business plan that could rent the new shop units in Chorley and to develop ideas that would make the business thrive into a successful local amenity. The judges were an esteemed panel of high profile individuals from Chorley. One was a entrepreneur who had previously been on the BBC 2 programme Dragons Den and could relate to the gruelling experience of presenting business ideas to a panel of judges who would quiz every aspect of the proposal.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the day and they all commented that they would be delighted to participate in something similar again in the future.
